Organization of the institution
The Paris Observatory is an institution ("Grand Etablissement") defined by the decree 85-715 du 10 juillet 1985. The Paris Observatory is directed by a President elected for four years, and administered by an Administration Board. The Administration Board and the President are assisted by a Scientific Council. A High Scientific Committee (Haut Comité Scientifique - HCS), composed of independent personalities, evaluates regularly the work of the institution.
The Paris Observatory is made up of five departments, an institute, two scientific services, and joint services.
